Labels for Wine Bottles – Correct Labelling is Required by Law
Each bottle of wine takes months of work. And this hard work deserves a great label. But, in addition to the design, it should be taken into account that it is generally required to label wine containers with a capacity of less than 60 liters to serve as a mandatory source of information for the consumer. Certain information, such as the quality level of the wine, the bottler’s details, including the place of bottling, residual sugar content and alcohol content, must be easily legible on the label of the wine. The details are regulated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Labeling and presentation of wine products), based on EU regulations.
The Mandatory Details on Your Label are:
- denomination of origin
- name of the product
- protected terms such as quality wine or predicate wine with an indication of origin
- alcohol content
- indication of origin
- proof number
- name and address of bottler
- bottle fill quantity
- allergens
- batch number
Front Label, Back Label, Main Label…
Many quality wines usually carry three labels: the presentation label on the front, a back label on the back and a neck band. However, it is not compulsory to put these three labels on your bottle of wine. You can also put all the data and information on one label. In addition, there is the term main label. The main label must contain the information required by the wine law and must be easy to read. If this information is on the back label, this is legally the main label.
What Kind of Label Do You Want?
We print your design according to your needs as self-adhesive labels on rolls. They have the advantage that they can be used immediately and applied to the wine bottle due to their adhesive layer on the reverse side. Our self-adhesive roll labels can be processed excellently both by machine and manually. If you wish, you can also order self-adhesive labels that can be removed again.
You can choose from a variety of paper types: from standard products to special papers with metallic effects. Our standard range also includes PE Film or PP Films, with white or transparent backing, and special wine papers such as Textured paper, Cotton Touch, Matt White and others.
Finishes
Labels for high-end products, such as premium wines, often require one or more finishes. This is especially true for wine labels, as bottles are often relatively unadorned and, depending on the growing region or grape variety, conform to certain standards, i.e. they do not provide a unique selling point for your wines. Add a noble lamination or a colourful hot foil stamping to your design. With our machines, we can apply almost all current finishing techniques, such as protective varnish in matt or glossy to protect your label from abrasion and make it water-resistant. In addition, it gives the label a noble appearance and is basically suitable for all materials. The same goes for finishing touches such as hot foil stamping.
Winding Directions
If you want to apply your adhesive labels on a roll by machine, it is important that you know the orientation of the winding of the roll labels.
To ensure that nothing stands in the way of successful labelling of your wine bottles, it is important to choose the correct winding direction. In principle, we distinguish between two primary winding positions:
- inner winding
- outer winding
This means that the printed side is either on the inside or on the outside.
It is also important to distinguish the possible orientation of the wine labels on the roll:
- bottom first
- top first
- left side first
- right side first
