What is sandwich printing?
Sandwich printing is a layered printing technique on transparent labels. It simulates printing on the adhesive side of the label and is mainly used on transparent bottles, allowing the design on the inside to be seen through. This effect is achieved by a transparent polypropylene front label, which creates the No-Label-Look effect. Alternatively, a precise cut can be made in the front label, allowing a clear view of the inside of the bottle, as shown in our example.
Thanks to digital printing technology, sandwich printing creates a unique effect on your roll labels, telling the story of your product with authenticity. It is also possible to enrich sandwich labels with different finishes, such as hot stamping, on both sides. You can choose any foil color for the front side, while on the inner side only a silver foil is available. This printing technique is especially appreciated on labels for spirits.

How is sandwich printing performed?
We are going to explain to you in detail how sandwich printing is carried out using our sample label (winner of the HP Inkspiration Award 2018 in Germany):
- The front label is produced in transparent polypropylene with No-Label-Look effect.
- On the back of the label, the sandwich printing technique is applied: Two layers of four-color printing are separated by a layer of opaque white (HPI-White) applied several times. Note: depending on the design you want, the layers of white may not cover 100% of the label. We invite you to contact our customer service department at etiqueta.es for advice on the possibilities and limits of this technique.
- Looking through the front label, the gold hot-stamped cage appears to trap the bird printed on the inside of the reverse side of the label. The outside of the reverse side shows, instead, a completely different design, hiding the bird thanks to the sandwich printing effect.
